Veronice was only 3 months old when her mother Veronica opened Salon La Verni in Rooihuiskraal before it later moved to Mall@Reds. Many hours were spent in the salon while she was growing up, learning first-hand from her mother, including during her primary school years, when she and her sister used to wash clients’ hair while standing on tomato crates. At 18, having finished high school, and with a deep love of the industry, she officially started working at Salon La Verni, while studying cosmetology at Pasquale. After 37 years, Veronica closed Salon La Verni’s doors in April 2022. But Veronice was not ready to hang up her scissors, opening Niche Boutique Salon, with her mother still working by her side. Veronice’s favourite parts of the job are immediate after-action satisfaction, and being able to serve God and people with her hands. And after so long working in the cold interiors of retail centres, she says the best part of the new salon is being surrounded by nature – a warmer and more personal environment.
